{flashback friday}

I found this little nugget as I was searching out a three ring binder for The Hubby. See, he's a school boy now. That's a whole other post though.

It was tidily tucked beneath the cover of my Junior English binder.

If my memory serves me correctly, which I believe it does, this was the assignment given for my first {and last} art class my Junior year. You see, the class had been over filled and so the teacher asked that a few of us drop it for the semester and take a different elective. I kind of wish now that I would have let some one else do the self-sacrificing. Oh well.

The assignment was to draw a picture representing our summer.

This was the summer of '02. In Show Low that meant that you spent half of your June as an "evacuee" from the Rodeo/Chedeski fires.

Well, it was a horrible fire. But close to the funnest few weeks of my adolescent life. I was a teenager and I took complete advantage of the situation. Practically a damsel in distress...guest in a new town...lots of new boys to flirt with...what else is there to say? On top of all that, I had just been recovering from mild heartbreak {as depicted in the drawing} and had a small hole which needed mending. Who doesn't love the rebound stage?

I accomplished a lot in that time. I broke TWO hearts, broke the law {in true good-girl style there were no drugs or alcohol involved, I merely scaled the walls of the Round Valley Dome...and in a skirt}, stood in the same building as President Bush as he declared the situation "A State of Emergency", attempted to drive a stick shift, had a song written {and sung} for me {M-barassing}, jumped off a 40 foot cliff {into water, I'm not crazy} and found a wonderful new friend.
As for the rest of this masterpiece...
I visited California and swam in several bodies of water, including the Salton Sea. And salty it was. That was an interesting experience. One that should only be carried out once. I don't think I could have drowned if I wanted to.
In Utah I got to visit my very first BEST FRIEND ever, Mr. T Judd. As always, it was a wonderful time. We walked to the dairy, had homemade ice-cream and I think we even climbed up in a haystack.
Viva Las Vegas! I rode the New York New York for the first time. Fun. But I've had better. Waaaayyy better.
I swam, slept, talked on the phone and cured my injured heart by falling for my number two Heber boy. I don't know that you can really count that as much but it was what brought me to my NUMBER THREE. You know what they say, Third time's a charm.
I fondly refer to that catch as The Hubby.
And that my friends is how THAT story goes.

What a great concept for a post. Sounds like it was a jam-packed summer. And fun. Scaling walls in a skirt? Now THAT is daring!

And you have the sketch to prove it. Brilliant.

Ah, yes, I remember that summer well. I didn't have nearly as much fun being evacuated as you did, but I was an old married woman by then. I was in Springerville during that time, so how come I never heard of your nervy exploits!?

Talented lady! I think I have a drawing you drew for Grandma. Either I have it with me or I remember coming across it at Grandmas, not really sure. If I have it and come across it in the next few days, I'll let you know for sure if you want me to send it to you!:0) Love the lizard post also!

I REMEMBER THE FOOTAGE TAKEN AS YOU GUYS FILMED THE ROAD BEHIND YOU AS YOU DROVE AWAY FROM YOUR HOME. WE WERE GLUED TO OUR T.V.'S HOPING AND PRAYING THAT NO ONE WOULD BE HURT, OR LOSE THEIR HOMES IN THE FIRE. WHO KNEW YOU'D BE HAVING SUCH A BLAST?! WHAT A GREAT MEMORY!
