{oh yes i am}

So the other day I was randomly informed that my mothering skills could use some work. There was a feeble attempt by the deliverer to soften the blow with a 'I'm sure you're not an entirely bad mom.' Ah shucks...thank you. ha ha I wont lie for a few days it bothered me and got my wheels to turning. And then the light bulb went on and tada I was enlightened. And here is what I came up with...

Top 10 Reasons Why I am a Fabulous Mother {exclamation point}

Font size
1. I make the yummiest, most perfectly temped bottles for Baby Boy. {Okay so that one is easy and pretty standard, but it means a lot to me that I do it just right for him.}

2. I have been know to play "Ashes Ashes" {ring around the rosies} with Bossy Pants for insane amounts of time just because he loves to "all fall down" on his little bum and then be all dramatic about it. And then he gets this smile like, "Man that was a good one." and that just butters me up for another go round.

3. "Bubbos" in the bath tub are not only allowed but encouraged.

4. My two year old still believes that Mommy's kisses will fix ANYTHING!

5. I can spout out TWENTY plus nursery rhymes or lullabies when the occasion calls for it.

6. I can also recite nearly word for word EVERY Disney movie ever made and know all the ridiculous theme songs to all those crazy cartoons that Bossy Pants loves. Even Yo Gabba Gabba, which quite frankly weirds me out.

7. When waiting in line at Wal-Mart for unimaginable lengths of time, public humiliation comes only second to my children's entertainment. {Yep I'm that nut you saw ducking under the cart with a blanket on her head shouting "Peek-a-boo!" as to be heard over the sick of being in a car seat 4 month old and the clearly Wal-Marted out 2 year old.}

8. I am an expert macaroni and 'dot dog' maker. I even let Bossy Pants pick all those "dot dogs" out of my bowl to put in his. Cheesy carbs are all a mother needs anyways right?

9. I know that when Baby Boy is sleepy all he needs is to be wrapped up in the crook of my arm, binky in mouth and blanket softly pressed against his chubby cheek. In a few minutes he is off to dreamy land. But I hold him for a few minutes longer so I can squeeze him and kiss him and tell him what a beautiful blessing he is.

And when Bossy Pants is nap ready, he MUST have his trusty "sippy" and any of his favorite blankies. In goes "Cars" or "Memo" {Finding Nemo} and that vivacious little man is resting easy. On special days when my hands aren't otherwise full, I sit next to him with his little head on my lap and trace circles around his eyes and down his nose. This he loves!

10. Because I love my boys more than anything! Because I LOVE being a mother and wouldn't trade it for any amount of success anywhere else. Because watching my little men grow and learn and become more sure of themselves is the greatest joy in my life! Because I understand that I am their mother and they are my children, my responsibility, mine to care for, mine to love and mine to receive love from. Because they know they are loved NO MATTER WHAT!

Am I a perfect mother? Absolutely not. Most nights I lay in bed I am not thinking to myself, "Wow you did a great job today!" I tend to sit and stir over all of the things I did wrong or didn't do at all. The opportunities I feel I missed and the lessons I wish I would have taught more clearly. So taking a moment to think of the things I can be proud of is something I needed. I would imagine most moms need a moment like that! So don't be shy. What makes you the worlds greatest MOMMY?!

That was a GREAT post from GREAT Mommy!!! People think they have all the answers and I hear SO often "what is wrong with todays children, my children never did that". Well honestly, YES they probably did. Children are children and we as parents are TRYING to be the best parents we can be and it is a learning process for us as it was for the generations before us. While nobody has had the guts to actually say it to me(most like because of my size and I would probably eat them alive:), I can read it in their stares and glares Ashley. I am sorry that happened to you, but it has inspired me to write a post so I can remember all the things I do RIGHT instead of all the things I do WRONG which would be a much longer post I assure you!

A great mommy loves her kids and does her best. I love your examples. We may all have different styles, but in the end who wouldn't play peek a boo in Walmart to keep the little ones smiling. Keep it up!

Ok honestly I look at all your pictures and you have the happiest babies! That's what being a good mom is all about! Making Mummy Dogs and cute lil trick or treat bags! And carving bout the most amazing pumpkin I've ever seen!It's about watchin the clouds with them and tucking them warm and safely into their beds each night and thenn checking on them several times after that! I have always thought you were an amazing mom! Keep doin what your doing! Those lil boys aren't complaining!

Hey, from one great mom to another--Ashley, you are a wonderful mother! I'd love to know who said that to you and under what circumstances. We all have moments when our kids are temporarily out of control, and there are always idiots who think that gives them the right to judge. The proof of greatness is that we never give up on our kids because they are our lives!!! We aren't perfect, but our kids know we'd give our lives for them. Keep up the good Mommy work!

Oh give me a break if you are a "Bad Mother" then I have no idea were I would rate! Haha Some people! Were do they come off? Sorry but that makes me mad when people say things like that espeacially to someone like you. Anyway, I think you have to try pretty hard to be a bad mom. I loved all your reasons of why you are a good mother only you can give the love a hugs and smiles and kisses your little ones need.
I am also glad to know you are not the only one that disregaurds the other people standing in line at walmart while making the goofiest sounds and faces to keep the babies happy!

Wow Ash, I think you're a wonderful mommy! And I can't believe someone had the nerve to say that you are anything less! We really need to get your Bossy Pants and mine together, they sound like two peas in a pod!!

Hey. I totally agree with you on all of these points. Someone hinted to me that I am just too busy to take REALLY good care of my boys...grrrr. I'm sure you are doing great...the most important thing is love. And it looks like you prove that to them. About the "booger sucker" I can't use it on Gage in front of Kaysen or else he tries to do it to Gage when I'm not looking. He's always trying to help a little toooooo much.

Hey Ashley, I love you post about being a mom, sounds like you do all those wonderful things a good mom does, no one can love and care for your boys like you do. I have enjoyed getting to know you through your posts...I also agree with your patriotic post 100%...sometimes prayer is all we have. I am so happy that Callie is doing so well and coming home Yeah! take care...perkins family

How dare that person say that?! Ugh, people are idiots. You know you are a good mom and that is ALL THAT MATTERS! (I am really outraged on your behalf, lol).

I THINK GOD'S GREAT DESIGN, THE ONE WHERE WE CARRY OUR CHILDREN IN OUR BODIES FOR 9 (OKAY, 10) MONTHS AND THEN FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS MAKES US PRETTY MUCH AN EXPERT ON ANYTHING RELATING TO THEM OR THEIR REARING, DON'T YOU??! ANYONE WHO THINKS THEY KNOW IT ALL ABOUT BEING A PARENT MOST LIKELY HAS NO CHILDREN YET, OR HAS PANTS THAT ARE ON FIRE...

I don't like Yo Gabba Gabba, either... that show is wrong on sooo many levels!

Its been said by others, but the best moms are the ones who love their kids and are there for them and do your best. I think if moms tried to be perfect, they would either end up insane or would miss out on a whole lot!
