a few weeks ago i told matt that i'd like a quiet dinner of just us and the boys and then some cake and ice-cream {homemade cherry amaretto of course} with family. but i believe plans have changed since i have not seen him in the last five days. he responded to a wildfire call on friday afternoon and has been gone ever since.

but don't feel bad for me please. i will be well taken care of. i always am. i have great family and friends. and as for our little family, we will have our quiet dinner together another night.

I know how you feel. I'm the Forest Service Dispatch Center Manager and I've been working at least 12 hours a day. At least I do get to sleep in my own bed at night.
Happy birthday Ashley! I still remember the first time I saw you, tiny and petite and all dressed in a lacy white dress, bundled up in a hand-crocheted rainbow-colored baby blanket. Has it really been 24 years since then?!
Just think how sweet your reunion will be when Matt returns--sometimes a belated birthday is even more exciting than the actual one!
