the sun did not shine. it was too wet to play. so we sat in the house all that cold, cold, wet day.

i walked in on this scene yesterday afternoon and immediately thought of {what else?} dr. seuss's the cat in the hat. two bummed out little people just sitting by the window waiting for a break in the cloud cover. all that was missing was a responsible orange fish.
********
it drizzled on and off all day. i love that. to me the world just feels cozy and comfy and small when you're beneath a heavy cloud. there was a lot to get done and i stayed up into the wee hours doing it. just as i was making my last rounds through the house, the four-year-old made a cry out for mom. instead of tucking him in and finding my own bed i crawled up in the covers and laid with him. he asked for a foot rub and i obliged. his breathing started to slow to sleep mode and i noticed that the tiny tip-tapping of rain on the window had stopped. and what should replace that sound but what i guess to be a hundred croaking frogs out in the creek next door. their song kept on until gage was sound asleep again. i got up and adjusted his covers then crept over to gare and did the same. it was quiet for about thirty seconds and then the tip-tapping began again. it was kind of like my own personal performance in the comfort of my home.
i love life's simple pleasures.
