happy-go-lucky

the alarm on my phone cried out at 10:30 a.m. on the dot. just about the same time that i was quickly picking a steaming hot waffle off of the iron. and only moments after having placed breakfast before our preschool graduate and his little blonde brother. school has been out for nearly a week now and i have yet to cancel the 10:30 a.m. alarm. the one that has sounded off every weekday since february the 10th proclaiming the near arrival of the four-year-old on his big yellow bus. i have a hard time doing trivial things like that. kind of like i have a hard time not making messes when i cook.

what i don't have a hard time doing are things like enjoying the happy-go-lucky mornings of summertime. so what if we're eating breakfast just thirty minutes before we were eating lunch last week? it's summer! summer is for eating whenever you eat. and summer is for letting your kids wake you up on occasion. like this morning when i woke up to the smell of wet dog on my two-year-old.

"did you go outside this morning?" i asked very very groggily.

"ummm. umm. yesssssss." came back the sweet little voice that was lathered in guilt.

that is summer for you. at least that's how we do summer around here. it's a schedule that we're pretty good at keeping.

what's your favorite part about school free summers?

p.s. in case you were wondering, my boys are still in their pajamas.

Monsoons. The sound of the thunder and smell of rain.

Hooray for lazy mornings, late breakfasts and pajamas well into the day. That's a beautiful thing! So far, with my kids, I've only known school free summers. So far, for the most part, our lives have been school free summers. Not for much longer, though. :-(

I also like lazy summer mornings. We are soaking them in over here as well. Late breakfasts, and messy kitckens and all!
